Honeysuckle, heliotrope, ripe pear, and brown spices (here with a cinnamon-like sweetness and pungency) rise from a glass of 2007 Puligny-Montrachet Clos De La Garenne, displaying its family resemblance to Pernot’s Folatieres. Bell-clear, and preserving luscious primary refreshment in the context of creamy richness, this finishes with more sheer sap and gripping concentration than that sibling. The sense of chalky minerality, saline savor, and pungent spice here serves for invigoration. I would anticipate this being worth following for 6-8 years.
Veteran Paul Pernot followed up his superb though alcoholically outsized 2006s with an equally impressive collection of 2007s that he characterizes as more generous than but in many respects similar to his 2004s. He harvested most of his Chardonnay between the 6th and mid September. This site north of Folatieres is monopolized by Pernot and the Jadot-owned Duc de Magenta domaine.
