The 2001 Mantenghja is produced from old vines in the same vineyards used for Assaje, massive, head-pruned trunks with, in many cases, over 50 years of age. A deep and dark ruby with an intense and spicy raspberry and red currant nose, it is concentrated, deep, and very firm on the palate, with sizeable but sensual tannins, and a sweetness which tempers and rounds the tannic clout of the flavors.
