The 2011 Cotes du Rhone Nature, which is largely Syrah with some Grenache aged in a combination of tank and large oak foudres, comes from organic vineyards, hence the name -Nature.- This wine exhibits fresh strawberry and cherry fruit and a touch of Provencal herbs in a soft, light to medium-bodied style that is ideal for quaffing and drinking uncritically. It is well-made but best drunk in its first year or so of life.
Of course, Jeb Dunnuck is covering the wines of the remarkable Perrin family, who own Chateau Beaucastel and also make the phenomenally successful Cote du Ventoux and Cote du Luberon La Vieille Ferme. They have also partnered with Robert Haas for their California project, Tablas Creek. These are two just-released cuvees that merit interest from shrewd consumers looking to maximize their value.
