The single-vineyard 2005 Chianti Classico Riserva Vigna Casi is a firm, fresh wine loaded with dark fruit, violets, minerals and menthol. The wine’s vibrancy and layered personality convey an impression of harmony and class. The tannins might need a year or two to soften, but this is a gorgeous effort. The Vigna Casi is 85% Sangiovese, 10% Merlot and 5% Colorino that spent 18 months in equal parts cask and medium-sized tonneaux. Anticipated maturity: 2011-2020.
