This single-vineyard Chardonnay is made in limited quantities. It is a tightly-knit, expressive wine bottled without fining or filtration. I have been buying this wine since Tom Rochioli first vineyard-designated it, and it has a good 5-7 years of life. The superb 1999 Chardonnay River Block (332 cases), made from the sandy, loamy soils, is tightly knit, with great fruit, an underlying liquid minerality, and plenty of leesy, smoky, tropical fruit intermixed with roasted almonds as well as a steely note.
