Decidedly earthy and again resiny and nearly obnoxiously spicy, the 2003 Chateauneuf du Pape Les Hautes Brusquieres Cuvee Speciale seems to be too driven by the spice component as opposed to the fruit aspects. Some gritty tannin in the finish also kept my eyebrows raised. This is a firm, big wine, but is showing some of the harsh tannins that sometimes plague the vintage. Give it 2-3 years of cellaring, and hope they become resolved. Anticipated maturity: 2008-2016.Importer: Kermit Lynch Wine Merchant, Berkeley, CA; tel. (510) 524-1524
