The 2010 Marsannay Les Longeroies shows off impeccable minerality and energy. This is a less overly fruit forward style than the Grasses Tetes. Bright red fruit, flowers, mint and crushed rocks stain the palate on the long, focused finish. This is another stunning showing from Bruno Clair. The Longeroies is a great wine for the dinner table. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2020. This is a fabulous set of wines from Bruno Clair and his long-time oenologist Philippe Brun. The harvest started on September 25. Yields were 22-30 hectoliters per hectare, which is to say a good 10% less than 2003, a torrid vintage marked by tiny yields. Clair describes the fruit as healthy, with no botrytis and soft tannins from the late harvest. The 2010s were 100% destemmed. The 2010 Marsannay Les Longeroies is impressive. It boasts considerable depth and sheer concentration in its juicy dark cherries, mint, flowers and graphite. Its vibrancy and energy are pure 2010. Clean veins of minerality frame the long, pure finish. This is a fabulous effort. Anticipated maturity: 2014-2020. Winemaker David Croix describes 2010 as being similar to 2002, but with more tension. The harvest started on September 23. About two-thirds of the wines were lightly chaptalized. None of these wines had been racked at the time of my visit in November 2011. Giroud fans will note the addition of two new Volnays to the lineup.
