The 2007 Rosso di Montalcino reveals a gorgeous core of perfumed ripe fruit in a more mid-weight, floral style than the 2006. Today the 2007 Rosso appears to be showing some of the effects of its recent bottling, but the wine’s exquisite length and finesse hint at what is to come. The 2007 Rosso was aged in equal parts casks and medium-size barrels. Anticipated maturity: 2009-2015. This is a thrilling set of wines from Pian dell’Orino, a small estate owned by Caroline Pobitzer and Jan Hendrik Erbach. The winery sits next to Biondi-Santi, in the heart of Montalcino. A total of six hectares of organically farmed vineyards also includes plots in the southern part of the Brunello zone.
