The 1996 Chardonnay Fournier Vineyard is an improvement over the 1995. More expansive and fuller-bodied, with a smoky, mineral, white fruit-scented nose, and stony, crisp, leesy flavors, it is French in style, powerful, complex, and more open and richer than the 1995.This wine should age nicely for 4-5 years. The winemaking philosophy employed by Gus and Todd Anderson includes extensive lees stirring, no malolactic fermentation, and bottling after 18 months with no filtration. (This is a tricky proposition when the wine has not gone through malolactic.) Fermentations are done by indigenous yeasts, and the wine is aged in a combination of barrels from Francois Freres and Demptos.Tel. (707) 963-8600; Fax (707) 963-7818
