The 1999 Montrachet has demure spice aromas that lead to a spice cake, plump, apple and pear-flavored character. It is tightly wound yet reveals traces of richness and lushness in its personality. It appears to have all the components for an outstanding review, but was so tight (a word that appears four times in my notebook on this wine) that I would prefer to retaste it before settling on a final determination. Anticipated maturity: 2003-2011.
