The 2003 Pinot Noir Botella is awkward and disjointed aromatically, displaying notes of herbs, the sushi seaweed wrap called nori, and strawberry and cherry fruit. Impressive in the mouth, it exhibits sweet currant, cherry, kirsch, smoke, earth, and licorice. Give it another six months of bottle age, and drink it over the following 5-7 years. This wine was bottled about six weeks before I tasted it, which is usually a difficult period for many wines, even those bottled naturally. In any event, this up-and-coming Santa Barbara County producer demonstrates considerable potential.Tel. (805) 737-1600
