Although they are difficult to sell, two wines not to be underestimated are Ramey’s Syrahs. The 2007 Syrah Sonoma Coast (aged 22 months in 100% new Francois Freres barrels) exhibits classic Northern Rhone-like notes of roasted meats, black olives, blackberries and pepper. Deep, rich, masculine and chewy with a full-bodied mouthfeel as well as abundant concentration and depth, it should provide pleasure over the next decade or more.
Owner/winemaker David Ramey produces two levels of Chardonnay – his generic appellation cuvees and his single vineyard offerings from three top sites, the Hudson, Hyde and Ritchie vineyards.
