The 2006 SHIRAZ was only in oak for six months according to the label, but it sure tastes like more. The blueberry / vanilla overlays are powerful and leave little of distinction. The structure is modest. I imagine this is called Shiraz in light of its attempt to create a stereotypical Barossa Shiraz. It doesn’t have the depth and structure of the better Barossa Shiraz in the big fruit, big everything style, though. There is some life and liveliness to the wine, though, and I imagine in its style, capped at 14% alcohol, it may win some fans. As it evolved, though, it seemed a bit shrill and hard edged despite the sweet oak and fruit. Drink now-2013. Although it is noted nowhere on the labels, Etko, a big Cypriot producer founded in 1844, is the sole owner of Olympus, a newly built winery.
