The opaque purple-hued 2007 Vagabond (a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, and a touch of Viognier) offers a big, sweet kiss of spring flowers, black fruits, spice, charcoal, and a hint of road tar. Dense and layered, but light on its feet for so much fruit and richness, it should drink well for 6-8 years. Interesting wines are produced by longtime winemaker, Claus Janzen. Very fruity and delicious in cherries, blackberries and sweet oak, with a pleasant spiciness, and firm, dry tannins that give it structure. But there’s a certain rusticity, with some raisin and mint flavors. Drink now. Mainly Syrah, with Cabernet Sauvignon.——S.H.(4/1/2010)—— 87
