The estate’s 2009 Chianti Classico Gherardino is a touch fleshier than the straight Chianti. It shows excellent depth and plumpness in its dark fruit, with spice and floral notes that wrap around the finish. I especially like the mid-palate pliancy in the Gherardino. Anticipated maturity: 2011-2015.
Judging by these wines Vignamaggio seems to have had a challenging time of it in 2008, which is quite understandable. The estate’s 2008s are solid efforts in a tough vintage.
