The 2007 Morey-Saint-Denis 1er Cru Les Blanchards is probably now at its peak. Showing some degradation in color on the rim, the nose is loose knit—perhaps a little rustic with rusty piping—and light mushroom scents tincture the red fruit. The palate conveys the structure of the appellation, and the acidity is well judged, with a pleasant bitterness that lends freshness. I feel this might have been better one or two years ago—the finish just missed the cohesion you might have expected. Nevertheless, this is still a pleasurable wine born in a difficult period for the domaine. Tasted May 2017.
