Kimich normally produces one of Germany's finest Gewurztraminers. While both the 1992 Forster Stift Gewurztraminer Spatlese Trocken and the 1992 Forster Stift Gewurztraminer Spatlese are very good wines, neither possesses the flavor dimension of his 1990s. The Spatlese Trocken exhibits Gewurztraminer's lychee nut/rose petal fragrance, and an attractive pineapple-like fruitiness in its dry, austere personality. The similarly-styled Forster Stift Spatlese is dominated by its exotic lychee nut character, and reveals a dry, medium-bodied finish. Both should be consumed over the next 2-3 years. One of my favorite German producers, Kimich fashions personality-filled, lavishly fruity, sometimes exotic wines with intense bouquets and flavors. Most of his 1992 offerings are successful.
