This is clearly a superlative source for terrific red wines at bargain prices. What about Trentadue's Petite Sirah? As one might expect, given the house style of this winery, the 1987 displays an impenetrable, black/purple, broodingly deep color. The nose offers up aromas of super-ripe black raspberries, peppery spices, and loads of fruit. In the mouth, it is an enormously concentrated, rich, chewy wine, with soft tannins, and layers of fruit and extract. The tannins are undoubtedly higher than one might suspect, but there is so much richness the structure of these wines is nearly obscured. This bargain-priced, blockbuster Petite Sirah is for drinking over the next 10-15 years.It should be apparent that this winery is making a bevy of terrific red wines at bargain basement prices. Their wines all sell for between $6-$12 a bottle. Given their quality/price rapport, these wines will not linger on retailers' shelves.
