This is a gorgeous wine from a vineyard that lies on the southwestern border of the grand cru Bonnes Mares. Medium-to-dark ruby-colored and offering tightly wound blueberry scents, this powerful, masculine, broad-shouldered, and superb wine saturates the palate with mouth-coating blackberries, earth, and minerals. Its long, seductive, defined, and supple tannins carry the fruit forth for 30 or more seconds. When this offering's nose unwinds and blossoms, my score may seem conservative. Projected maturity: 2002-2007+.
I believe 1996 will be remembered at Maison Louis Jadot as particularly successful in Chambolle-Musigny. This offering was excellent to outstanding.
