Terenzi's delicious 2012 Morellino di Scansano sets the bar high for this promising corner of Tuscan winemaking. As someone who lives in nearby Rome, I drink a lot of Morellino, but I understand that this appellation is less known outside of Italy. This wine opens to a deep ruby color and well defined aromas of cherry, cassis and moist earth. That tangy, crisp quality of Sangiovese really comes through in this vintage. This is the quintessential pasta wine, especially if your plate is topped by parmigiano or pecorino cheese.
