The 1996 Cabernet Sauvignon Marston Vineyard is qualitatively similar to the 1997, revealing more red currant notes. The wine is medium to full-bodied. It is slightly less concentrated than the 1997. An impressively constructed, rich wine, it is not quite as seductive and forward as the State Lane offerings. I envision this cuvee lasting two decades. The Marston Vineyard is situated on Spring Mountain. The single-vineyard Cabernet Sauvignons are part of what Beringer calls their "Vineyard Collection." Produced in 200 case lots, readers expecting to find them sitting on a shelf in their local retail shops will be disappointed, as they are destined to be sold via Beringer's mailing list, or directly from the winery.
