Sassotondo is located in the deep southern part of Tuscany, not far from the border with Lazio, and the soil of tufaceous rock is porous and drains very well in wet weather. This is the only explanation I can give for the quality of the 2002 San Lorenzo, though the skills of winemaker Attilio Pagli are certainly not a minor factor either. Dense and intense with aromas and flavors of plums, cherries, chocolate, and tar, the vigor and solidity suggest that another decade of fine drinking is still ahead. Importer: unknown
