This wine reveals an unmistakable Australian character (more than just the spelling of Syrah as Shiraz). The color is a healthy dark ruby/purple, and the nose offers up scents of blackberries, tar, and smoky, woodsy notes. In the mouth, the wine seems less promising than the sensational aromatics suggest. There is a roughness (too much added acidity?) to the wine's texture, but there is no doubting this wine has been well-endowed with plenty of jammy, concentrated black fruit. The finish is sweet, with loads of wood. Drink this Shiraz now and over the next 7-8 years.
