Medium-deep garnet in color with a hint of purple, the 2009 ‘The Election’ Shiraz gives aromas of blackberry preserves, mulberries and spice cake with nuances of Provence herbs and lavender. Full bodied with plenty of ripe, expressive peppered black berry flavors, it has a good line of refreshing acidity and a medium to firm level of velvety tannins lending just enough texture through the long finish. The 2006 The Election Shiraz is a saturated purple color with a bouquet of damp earth, mineral, spice box, leather, blueberry, and blackberry. Elegant yet powerful on the palate, it has superb depth and concentration, complex flavors, a silky texture, and 5-7 years of aging potential. Drink this high-class Shiraz from 2014 to 2028. Raising the bar is the 2005 Shiraz “The Election,” a wine aged in French (70% new) and American oak. Purple/black in color, it emits a powerful perfume of pain grille, smoked meat, bacon, pencil lead, blueberry, and blackberry liqueur. It has a deep core of spicy black fruits, superb balance, and immense promise. It merits 8-10 years of additional cellaring and will drink well through 2030.
