The 2017 Chablis 1er Cru Beauroy offers up a site-typical bouquet of mandarin, honeyed Meyer lemons and flowers, followed by a medium to full-bodied, expansive and open-knit palate that's delicately fleshy and nicely defined, concluding with a saline finish. This is a blend of lieux-dits Beauroy and Troesmes.

The 2015 Chablis 1Er Cru Beauroy comes from 25-year-old vines and spent 12 months on the lees, a little shorter than its fellow premier crus from La Chablisienne. It has a pretty, apricot blossom-tinged bouquet, with subtle mineral tones revealed through aeration. The palate is well balanced, with a slightly viscous opening, a superb line of acidity and impressive purity on the subtle peach and cream finish. What a lovely Chablis Beauroy!

The 2014 Chablis 1Er Cru Beauroy has a delightful bouquet with limestone-scented citrus fruit that fan out from the glass. The palate is clean and fresh with a fine line of acidity, quite intense mineral-driven citrus fruit segueing into a poised, harmonious and stony finish. This is a well-crafted, delicious Beauroy.

The 2013 Chablis 1er Cru Beauroy was cropped at 55 hectoliters per hectare and sees some wood contact. It has a reserved nose with light touches of almond paste and a touch of oyster shell, though overall it is missing some vigor. The palate is well balanced with crisp acidity, perhaps conservative and missing some depth toward the finish, but maintaining a satisfying degree of freshness. Drink over the next four to five years.

The 2012 Chablis 1er Cru Beauroy comes from 5.8 hectares of vine and is raised in stainless steel and oak barrels. It has a light, smoky bouquet with moderate definition. The palate is balanced with a supple entry: light apricot and peach skin notes, nicely judged acidity and a little fatness on the finish to round things off nicely. Drink now-2016. La Chablisienne is one of Chablis’ most high-profile cooperatives and a great success story. Founded back in 1923 and still going strong, it is said that they oversee approximately one-quarter of the region’s production, around 300 individual growers. Therefore, just like Georges Duboeuf in Beaujolais or Louis Jadot in the Cote d’Or, it is important that they maintain standards irrespective of high volumes, since their size ensures that they have an ambassadorial role for Chablis, for ordinary punters perhaps seeking to broaden their horizons. In this respect, the wines should not be looked down upon given the showing here. While none of them reached the heady heights of Chablis’ most revered artisans, there was certainly a consistency across the range that when coupled with the volume produced, deserves to be applauded.
