From Bombach's dark and deep clay soils topping the limestone, the 2021 Sommerhalde Sp?tburgunder GG is very clear and refined on the deep, discreet, finely intense and slightly reductive nose that offers dark cherry aromas and fine toasty notes. Silky, finessed and round on the palate, this a full-bodied, dense and elegant, very long, intense and complex Pinot with remarkably fine tannins and a persistent saline and refreshing finish. This wine has a quiet flow and great noblesse. This is a highly delicate, precise and saline Sommerhalde from top genetics planted between 1998 and 2009. 13.5% stated alcohol. Natural cork. From a warm and dry year that brought picture-book grapes with small berries and optimal skin-juice ratios, the 2020 Sommerhalde Sp?tburgunder GG opens with a deep, intense and spicy red and dark cassis aroma and moderate reduction. The wine is silky, round and elegant on the palate and fleshy, intense and charming on the finish, and it reveals fine tannins and remains a gentle character. 13.5% stated alcohol. Natural cork. Fermented with 10% to 15% whole clusters, the 2019 Sommerhalde Sp?tburgunder GG is clear, fresh and refined on the intense, elegant and aromatic nose. Silky, fresh and very mineral on the palate, this is an intense, persistently complex, finely concentrated and playful Pinot with less flesh and roundness than the 2022 but great precision and finesse. Fermented with 10% to 15% whole clusters the 2018 Sommerhalde Sp?tburgunder GG opens with a generous, intense and aromatic bouquet. Macerated for 16-18 days, including carbonic maceration, this is a juicy, fruity and aromatic Pinot with intense cherry aromas, very fine tannins and, in general, remarkable finesse. This combined with the intensity and ripeness of the fruit and the body of the vintage make the 2018 a particular Pinot in Julian's career as a winemaker. From very small yields due to spring frost, the 2017 Sommerhalde Sp?tburgunder GG was fermented entirely on destemmed grapes for the first time and extracted by remontage. The transparent color bears a delicate, finely spicy and rather subtle nose of red berries and floral aromas. Silky, fresh and elegant on the palate, this is a light-footed, finessed, puristic and very saline Pinot with a grippy finish. It is like Scandinavian jazz music or a counter tenor compared to an Altus. Natural cork. Tasted at the domaine in October 2023.
