The organic Conti Capponi Villa Calcinaia 2016 Chianti Classico Riserva shows dark fruit and ripe cherry with nice layers of cassis, dried raspberry, spice and crushed stone at the back. This is a fine, mid-weight expression of Sangiovese with silky tannins and balanced freshness to enjoy with an antipasto of fatty cold cuts, pecorino wedges, artichokes and black olives.

The 2015 Chianti Classico Riserva Conti Capponi does a great job of portraying the elegant and somewhat wild side of Greve in Chianti, a part of the appellation known for some of the most streamlined and nuanced expressions of Sangiovese in Chianti Classico. The pretty wine offers tight aromas of wild berry and cassis with drying mineral notes that are very faithful to the gravel soils of the area. This is an authentic wine with loads of spirt and personality. Some 7,800 bottles were made.

The 2013 Chianti Classico Riserva is a problematic red wine with a disjointed bouquet. The blend is 85% Sangiovese, 5% Canaiolo, 5% Montepulciano d'Abruzzo and 5% Teroldego. It is aged in medium and large oak barrel for two years. The bouquet is scattered with ripe fruit aromas followed by green herb, tar and red beets. The effect is pungent and strong, and I don't think additional bottle aging will help the situation much.

Here's a library bottle that takes us back to one of the most celebrated vintages in modern Tuscan wine history. The Conti Capponi Villa Calcinaia 2010 Chianti Classico Riserva is identified by its elegant tertiary character, but the aging process is cautious and calibrated. The wine reveals dark fruit, plum, dried currant, cured tobacco and leather. The wine's fiber is rich and plentiful and ready to go. This wine is drinking very nicely today.

The 2009 Chianti Classico Riserva shows disjointed tones of sweet cherry preserves flush against exotic spice. The wine shows a mild ruby color and although it keeps your attention in terms of nose, it offers modest excitement in the mouth. Anticipated maturity: 2013-2016.
