The 2011 Primitivo di Manduria Papale reveals a bouquet of dark fruit and prune followed by scorched earth, tar and toasted almond husk. The wine ages in tonneaux for eight months and the oak spice is evident here. Papale offers less in terms of fresh fruit. Stylistically speaking, it embraces a thick, ripe and evolved personality. It shows dense texture and raisin-like endnotes. This wine is slow to open and needs a few minutes in the glass before it reveals its perfumes.
