The 1995 Cabernet Sauvignon/Merlot (85% of the former and 15% of the latter) emerges from a 30-year old vineyard. Its deep ruby/purple color is followed by a textbook Bordeaux bouquet of black currants, spicy new oak, and cedar. Rich on the attack, with outstanding ripeness, purity, and overall equilibrium, this is a classic example of power allied to elegance. Anticipated maturity: 2002-2016. The exotic 1994 Cabernet/Merlot (85% Cabernet Sauvignon and 15% Merlot) exhibits a dense ruby/purple color, as well as an intriguing nose of peanut butter, toasty oak, chocolate, cedar, and cassis. It offers low acidity, outstanding fruit purity, and surprising elegance/finesse. As the wine sits in the glass, tobacco/mineral notes enhance the complex personality of this medium to full-bodied, fruit-driven wine. It should drink well for 5-10 years.
