The 2008 Pinot Noir Black Cap Reserve is an equal parts blend of Bishop’s Creek and Estate fruit. It displays an arresting nose of Asian spices, incense, floral notes, underbrush, black cherry, and black raspberry. Already complex on the palate, it possesses outstanding volume, concentration, and an overall elegant personality. It, too, should have a drinking window extending from 2013 to 2023, perhaps longer.
A visit to The Eyrie Vineyards and Jason Lett is always a highlight of my 2 weeks in Willamette Valley. Jason pursues his (and his late father’s) vision of viticulture and winemaking with little or no regard to what others are doing, and it seems to work out just fine.
