The 2008 Syrah contains 6% Cabernet Franc in its blend. The Syrah was sourced from the Bacchus and Ciel du Cheval Vineyards, the Cabernet Franc from the Weinbau Vineyard with the wine aged for 18 months in 33% new Hungarian oak, the balance in older French oak. Made in a spicy, straightforward style with pleasing notes of smoked meat, lavender, and blueberry, this solid effort will provide enjoyment over the next 4-5 years. Lovely aromas mingle baking spices, white pepper, red fruits and black cherries. It’s a little light in terms of body, but not color or scent. The tannins are herbal and chewy, and the finish carries a pleasing floral note.——P.G.(9/1/2010)—— 90

The 2005 Syrah is 100% varietal as revealed in its exceptionally smoky, meaty, sausage and bacon scented-nose along with a generous helping of blueberry puree.
