Displaying a deep magenta core, the 2018 Singularity bursts from the glass with elegance and finesse, sashaying with aromas of black peppercorn, dusty violets, blackberry reduction and elements of cured meat. Medium to full-bodied, the palate is precise, focused and layered with gobs of ripe, healthy, black fruit essences, a balanced structure and buttressing tannins. The elongated finish continues to unpack layers of complexity as persistent flavors of spiced blackberry jus remain on the palate with bright purple floral tones. Only 5,400 bottles were filled after the wine rested for 32 months in 75% new French oak. Bravo, this is delicious and food-friendly.

Made from 100% Syrah, the 2017 Singularity has a deep purple color that’s almost opaque. On the dense and chewy nose, the wine offers aromas of stewed blackberry, plum, dusty black pepper, wilted lavender and violet petals and smoked meat. Full-bodied, the wine is generous and heavily weighted on the palate, showing initial spicy flavors of black pepper and spiced chutney before expressing tight tannins across the gumline. Even after spending 30 months in 100% new French oak, the wine lingers with a tightness across the long and spicy finish. Only 1,800 bottles made. Give it another year in bottle before opening.

The 2016 Singularity explodes from the glass with a dense and chewy boldness that pops with layers of black pepper and dusty blackberries that are wound with a mineral tension. Full-bodied, the Syrah is brilliantly layered with oak tones that lift the mid-palate from its inky, dense state. The wine ends with a long and complex finish that evolves with a fantastic kaleidoscope of flavors—smoked blackberry, cinnamon-spiced potpourri, lingering black pepper tones and raspberry blossom. It’s a bold beast in a velvet robe. I just might have to finish the glass. 250 cases made.

Dominated by its time in new oak, the 2015 Singularity reveals rich aromas of crème de cassis, vanilla pod and spice. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, chewy and firm, with its Syrah fruit taking a back seat to oak-derived flavors and tannins. I struggled to love it.

The top Syrah of the estate, the 2014 Singularity comes from the estate vineyard located on western side of the Yakima Valley and is brought up all in new oak. In 2014 (as in all vintages), it's a meaty, beefy, smoky wine that always brings to my mind a top C?te R?tie from the Guigal family. Smoked meats, cured bacon fat, chocolate, blackcurrants and licorice nuances flow to a full-bodied, impeccably balanced, seamless Syrah that has nicely integrated acidity, ripe tannin and a great finish. While it's one of the more approachable vintages for this cuvee, it will still benefit from short term cellaring and keep for 15+ years.
