Pannell's 2016 Syrah (sourced from the Adelaide Hills) is a medium to full-bodied effort, loaded with blueberry-blackberry fruit. Almost a third was fermented whole-cluster, but it's hardly noticeable, imparting just a light sprinkling of dried flower petals and spice to the mix. Likewise, the oak is almost sub-threshold, dusting the surface with hints of cinnamon and clove. It's a luscious combination, finished off with savory notes of black olive and espresso on the long finish.

Effusive, with white pepper and rose petal notes supported by a mouthful of dense, chewy tannins, accented by a whiff of savory to the cherry and blackberry core. Powerful on the long finish. Medium to deep garnet in color, the 2014 Syrah has a black pepper and herb laced nose with a core of mulberries, warm plums and black cherries. The palate is elegantly styled and medium-bodied with cooler climate flavor expressions of pepper, spices and cherries. It finishes with very good length and harmony. This is a very impressive Adelaide Hills Syrah, bravo!

The 2006 GST “Pronto” is a barrel sample. It is composed of 96% Grenache, 2% Shiraz, and 2% Touriga aged in stainless steel. Dark ruby-colored, it presents an intriguing nose of seaweed, iodine, and kirsch. This leads to a firm, structured, spicy wine with plenty of ripe fruit and a moderately long finish.
