From the limestone soils (in contrast to the sandy soils of the Larner Vineyard) of the Purisima Mountain vineyard, Samsara’s 2002 Syrah exhibits tremendous notes of creme de cassis and smoky creosote as well as more tannin, density, and structure, but not the complexity of the Larner Vineyard cuvee. However, the Purisima Mountain offering is more backward, fuller-bodied, and muscular, thus requiring additional bottle age. Tel. (805) 735-7030 (Melville Winery) or www.samsarawine.com
