The pale to medium ruby colored 2015 Pinot Noir Las Hermanas is open on the nose, giving up dried rose petal and orange oil, Earl Grey tea, pink peppercorn, pipe tobacco and dusty earth with crushed strawberries, rhubarb and warm black and red cherries and berries. Light to medium-bodied and very silky, it gives up intense spicy fruits with pleasantly dusty tannins and juicy acidity, finishing long, energetic and spicy.

The 2014 Pinot Noir Las Hermanas sports a pale ruby-purple color and has delicate scents of potpourri, dried lavender and dusty earth over a kirsch and mulberries-laced core. Light to medium-bodied, finely played and very refreshing in the mouth, it has delicate earth and red berry layers and a soft-spoken finish.

Showing more masculine notes of peppery herbs, underbrush, smoked dark fruits and licorice, the 2013 Pinot Noir Las Hermanas (50% stems and 20 months in 30% new French oak) is rich and meaty on the palate, with plenty of fine tannin showing on the finish. I like its overall balance and purity, and it should be even better this time next year.

Leaning toward the gamy end of the spectrum, the 2012 Pinot Noir Las Hermanas offers lots of pepper, olive, violets and darker fruit (blind, I'd be more Cote Rotie than Pinot Noir) to go with a medium-bodied, juicy and lively style on the palate. Seeing 65% whole clusters and 20 months on lees in 30% new French oak, it's one of the those Pinots that has a touch of green without going off the deep end. It's drinking nicely today, yet I suspect it will evolve nicely and should still be enjoyable at age 10.

Impressive, with its 70% whole cluster inclusion showing front and center, the 2011 Pinot Noir Las Hermanas exhibits savory aromas and flavors (white pepper, meat, spice and darker berry fruit), a big, rich mid-palate and a seamless, totally brilliant texture that keeps you coming back to the glass. Count me a fan and this beauty should round into form in another year or two and shine through 2021. Drink 2015-2021. This is a great lineup by Chad Melville. Neutral oak, no SO2 until racking, varying degrees of whole cluster, native yeasts and a very cold cellar are the name of the game here and these are have individual, unique profiles.
