The 2018 Sp?tburgunder Kirchberg GG is intense yet pure and fresh, well-concentrated and aromatic, with thick-skinned cherry, grape berry and some fresh plummy aromas along with notes of tea leaves. On the palate, this is a very rich and generous, powerful and sweetish, concentrated and grippy Pinot that has all the warmth and ripeness of the vintage but also the winemaking skills of Konrad Salwey, who successfully worked against the heat. The wine has really good tension yet isn't what Salwey normally expresses with his Pinots. I'm looking forward to the 2017 and 2019 Pinots, which will be released later. Tasted in Wiesbaden in August 2020.
