A pure expression of Merlot, the Borgo Conventi 2012 Braida Nuova Rosso is a bold and generous red wine with thick layers of dark fruit, dried cherry and plum. Those dark and slightly evolved fruit tones are followed by spice, tar and cured tobacco. The bouquet is generous and large in scale; however, the wine weighs in with medium-weight texture on the palate. This is a nice surprise, as it avoids feeling heavy or too rich. Drink this Merlot within the next 3 or 4 years with some marinated steak tips.
