The 2008 Finca Pla del Moli is a blend of Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon aged separately for 14 months in French oak barriques. This has an evolved, quite classical nose of leather, cigar box, mint, blackberries and black pepper and a medium-bodied palate with polished tannins and very good acidity. It might not be terribly exciting, but it’s very good at what it is and represents good value. Drink now-2018. This is a new name, a family winery created in 2004, but with a long tradition as grape growers. They own some exceptional vineyards like a centenary plot of Carinena where they source the fruit for the Cami de Cormes, a really impressive and profound wine well worth its price. The 2008 Pla Del Moli is made up of 50% Cabernet Sauvignon and 50% Merlot. Aromas of pain grille, smoke, violets, cassis, and blackberry inform the nose of this structured, one-dimensional but tasty offering. The 2007 Pla del Moli is an equal blend of Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon aged for 16 months in French oak barriques (second and third fill.) It has a light, rather herbaceous bouquet with light earthy, forest floor aromas. The palate is medium-bodied with a sweet entry of liquorice and dark plum that leads to a slightly attenuated, tannic finish that needs more flesh on its bones. Roig Parals was founded in 2005. They own 11 hectares of vine – two plots with vines up to 116 years old. Tasting inside the winery, conditions did appear rather cramped, but fortunately a new, more spacious facility is being built.
