The 2004 “Barossa Babe” Shiraz, the wine with the “babe” on the back label, was aged for 18 months in French oak, 46% new. Much of the fruit came from ancient, 140-year-old vines. Purple-colored, it exhibits a fragrant perfume of pain grille, smoke, black pepper, espresso, tar, plum and blackberry. This is followed by a full-bodied wine that manages to combine elegance with its obvious power. There are tons of ripe fruit, layers of flavor, well-concealed tannins, and a long finish. Give this hedonistic effort 4-6 years to unfurl and drink it through 2029.Importer: Click Wine Group, Seattle, WA; tel. 1-800-859-0689
