The 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon Bos is from a single vineyard in Coonawarra, and in line with all the other Bos Cabernets I have tasted over the years, it is dry, savory, dusty, herbal and defined by oak and powerful tannins. This is the style that Reschke has stood by over the years, and it has a place, old fashioned though it is. There are notes of boot polish, black fruit, tobacco/cigar box, coal dust, clove and peppercorns. At this stage, the detractor is the overly ripe fruit through the finish, which has a jammy quality to it.

Deep garnet-brick in color, the 2005 Bos Cabernet Sauvignon displays earthy, meaty aromatic tones over a core of prunes, dates and espresso that has a whiff of tobacco. Medium-bodied with plenty of mature black fruit and spice box flavors on offer on the palate, it is framed by powdery tannins, crisp acidity and a long finish that is just a bit drying. Drink it now. The 2004 Cabernet Sauvignon “Bos” has a less saturated color, but similar aromatics. On the palate it is more compact and lacks the breadth of the 2003. The estate’s flagship wine is called “Empyrean” and is only released in top vintages. Reschke, whose first vintage in 1998 was well received in this journal, has emerged as the rising star of Coonawarra, a region in need of an infusion of new blood. The 2003 Cabernet Sauvignon “Bos” was barrel fermented and aged in a mix of American oak hogsheads and French barriques. Purple/black in color, the wine exhibits a fragrant bouquet of earth, cassis, black currants, and dark chocolate. This leads to a medium-bodied, elegant Cabernet with layered red and black fruit flavors, chocolate, and ripe tannins. Give it 2-3 years to fully blossom and drink it through 2023.
