The 2007 RESERVA “MURAL” is a Touriga Franca and Tinta Roriz equal blend, with 20% Touriga Nacional added in. 25% of the blend was aged in French oak for 9 months, the rest in tank after fermentation in tank. Portal’s budget entrant is clean, fruity and friendly, with a bright and charming demeanor. It is quite delicious, if not terribly deep, although it is neither thin nor candied. It still showed great and in peak form after an hour’s aeration. It is not particularly ageworthy, but it doesn’t seem likely to fall apart with a couple of years in the cellar, as many wines in low price ranges do, either. How long it will stay at peak is always the harder question and I would thus recommend drinking it now and over the next couple of years for best results. It is lovely now, not likely to improve and at this price point, this fresh, laid back wine is going to make a lot of folks happy. There were only 5,000 cases produced. Drink now-2015. The pretty labels are always fun, but reality beckons—this estate is increasingly a major player in the Douro.Importer: M Imports, Coppell, TX; tel: (214) 505-0616.
