The 2009 Chianti Classico Riserva Casasilia (100% Sangiovese) is a pretty wine laced with dried cherries flowers, spices and tobacco. The 2009 possesses lovely inner perfume and sweetness. Deceptively medium in body, the Casasilia also has enough body to drink well for at least a handful of years. Hints of tobacco, smoke, licorice and sweet herbs are layered into the finish. Poggio al Sole’s 2008 Chianti Classico Riserva Casasilia is elegant and polished from start to finish. Silky tannins provide the backdrop for layers of expressive dark fruit, leather and licorice. The 2006 Chianti Classico Riserva Casasilia is a very serious wine that captures the essence of this important Tuscan vintage. Here the Sangiovese gives the wine a sense of verve and cut that stands apart from the softer, more overt wines the estate makes from international grapes. All of the elements come together beautifully in the glass. Ripe, racy dark fruit, sweet French oak, licorice, flowers and tobacco are some of the nuances that emerge from the Casasilia. The perfumed, floral finish adds a measure of freshness to the long, firm finish. Though delicious today, the 2006 Casasilia will be even better in a few years. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2026.
