Here's a fresh and vibrant white wine to enjoy within the next two years. The Paolo Conterno 2021 Langhe Arneis A Val is redolent of lime, cooling citrus, fragrant bergamot and crushed limestone. It shows a lot of white fruits and pretty freshness. There is enough textural power (and alcohol at 14%) to pair it with a creamy seafood risotto. Production is 6,000 bottles.

With some 6,000 bottles released, the Paolo Conterno 2020 Langhe Arneis A Val displays fragrant aromas of orchard fruit, honeysuckle, natural rubber and summer peach. The Arneis grape always shows a mouthfeel with an extra touch of creaminess or richness, and that quality is delivered here quite nicely. You get the freshness of the bouquet that is contrasted against the glossy sheen of the mouthfeel, setting you up for a nice pan-fried freshwater fish to serve with this fragrant white.

The Paolo Conterno 2019 Langhe Arneis A Val (with 6,000 bottles made) opens to tropical and orchard fruit aromas with background tones of beeswax and acacia flower. This wine is happily void of those sometimes heavy and overtly rubbery aromas you can get with the Arneis grape. Instead, this medium-rich wine offers enough freshness to underline those pretty fruit flavors. Winemaking is simple, in just stainless steel, and the vineyards are planted in calcareous-rich soils. These conditions impart some mild saltiness or minerality.

Paolo Conterno makes this Arneis in partnership with another estate in Canale, Piedmont. The 2018 Langhe Arneis A Val is a beautifully vibrant expression that brings new meaning to the terms "zesty" and "fresh." There is just so much citrus and tangerine skin intensity here. It's an easy-drinking and snappy white to pair with gaspacho or a Turkish tomato-and-cucumber salad.

The Paolo Conterno 2017 Langhe Arneis A Val is a terrific, easy-drinking white. The wine offers so much zesty appeal with citrus zingers, ginger and crushed white mineral. True to the grape, the wine finishes with bright acidity and crisp linearity. This is a terrific white wine that is honest and utterly unpretentious in the most endearing way. Some 6,000 bottles were made.
