The 2007 OLYMPUS RED is a blend of Mavro, Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz. It is not quite as successful as the entry level white reviewed here. It is typical of a lot of low end wines that have a mass market feel, but if its street price exceeds $10, it is actually a bit expensive for what it is. Simple, grapey and seeming like generic Beaujolais in demeanor, it projects some obvious fruit flavor, a touch of bubblegum, and simple, candied fruit on the finish. It seems hollow and there is no structure to speak of. The wine should be drunk on release. Drink now. Although it is noted nowhere on the labels, Etko, a big Cypriot producer founded in 1844, is the sole owner of Olympus, a newly built winery. Etko is probably most familiar to Americans for their Commandaria bottlings. Its principal also owns Olympus Hellas.Importer: Wonderful Ethnic Imports, New York, N.Y.; tel: (212) 683-5021
