The purple-colored 2006 Reserve is a blend of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Cabernet Franc, 10% Merlot, with the balance Petit Verdot aged for 36 months in 100% new French oak. The slightly reticent nose gives up aromas of toast, pencil lead, violets, spice box, a hint of balsamic, black currant, and blackberry. Smooth textured on the palate with ample spicy fruit, moderate ripe tannins, and good volume, it will continue to evolve for another 2-3 years and offer prime drinking from 2013 to 2021. This ripe, rich, almost decadently thick wine is about as close as a Washington vintner can come to the decadently ripe style of the cultish Bordeaux blends of California. Along with the unctuous New World fruit, sap and flesh, there are thick, ripe tannins and a vivid acid underpinning.
