Under the guidance of winemaker, David Schlottman, Napa Ridge, part of the Beringer family of vineyards, is turning out amazing wines for low to modest prices. Current and up-coming releases are all exciting. Readers should recognize that some of the Reserve and single-vineyard wines are made in more limited quantities than the standard cuvees. The 1994 Sauvignon Blanc, a great value, offers plenty of citrusy, melony fruit with a subtle touch of herbs. Medium-bodied, crisp, and delicious, it is meant to be drunk over the next 8-12 months. This winery is on a hot streak, turning out numerous well-made, bargain-priced wines. The 1993 Sauvignon Blanc North Coast reveals a delicate, floral, fig, herb, melony nose, clean, light to medium-bodied flavors with gobs of fruit, and a surprisingly long, dry finish.
