The 1991 Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve is the first Reserve designation I have seen from Napa Ridge's Cabernet program. It is an extremely well-made, easily understood, rich, medium to full-bodied wine. The nose offers up intense blackcurrant aromas, intertwined with scents of smoky vanillin from new oak. The wine is dense, rich, soft, and accessible enough to be drunk young, but there are enough structure and tannin to suggest that this wine will improve with 2-3 years of cellaring - perhaps even merit an outstanding score. It possesses impressive extract levels, sweet tannin, low acidity, and a long finish. This classy Cabernet should last for 12-15+ years. The folks at Napa Ridge are apparently incapable of making anything but delicious wines at modest prices. Kudos to winemaker David Schlottman for consistently turning out reasonably priced, delicious wines.Tel. (707) 963-7115 (Beringer)
