An 80/20 blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc, the Micheletti 2019 Bolgheri Superiore Guardione is a very perfumed Tuscan blend with plenty of lavender sachet, wildflower and rose potpourri. Those lifted floral nuances quickly cede to standard aromas of black fruit, tobacco and wet stone. This does show lasting tannic astringency on the full-bodied close. 2,000 bottles were produced.

Pull out the lasagna tray for Micheletti's 2017 Bolgheri Superiore Guardione, an 80/20 blend of Cabernets Sauvignon and Franc. It's a hearty and robust red with a heavy and savory quality. Dark plum and dried blackberry are followed by spice, tar, cured tobacco and scorched earth. The hot and dry vintage has contributed to the richness of the wine and perhaps to those slightly evolved flavors. There is a hint of hot-vintage bitterness on the close. This is a small release of about 2,000 bottles.
