The Mazzei 2020 Poggio Badiola is an informal blend of 70% Sangiovese and 30% Merlot. The wine offers the bright fruit and acidity of the first grape with plenty of the cherry softness of the second. Basic primary tones are followed by blue flower and crushed aspirin. This is an entry-level wine that is food-friendly and fresh, with a short finish. Some 240,000 bottles were released.

The Mazzei 2018 Poggio Badiola is a blend of Sangiovese, Merlot and Petit Verdot that reveals soft cherry and blackberry confit with spice, leather and some of those earthy notes of forest floor or pressed violet that are so commonly found in this sun-drenched part of Tuscany. This is a well-priced Tuscan blend that is ready for any home-cooked pasta dish you can think of.

A blend of Sangiovese and Merlot, the 2012 Poggio Badiola is an easily approachable wine with good doses of spice and small berries followed by crushed white pepper and a distant whiff of artichoke leaf. It’s a fine choice for pizza or pasta night.
