The outstanding 2008 Costieres de Nimes Cuvee Quintessence is a blend of 85% Grenache (from 50-year-old vines), 10% Mourvedre and 5% Syrah cropped at a remarkably low 15 hectoliters per hectare. A stunning effort, it is as good if not better than most Chateauneuf du Papes made in this vintage. Its deep plum/ruby color is followed by stunning aromas of kirsch, licorice, Provencal herbs, pepper and spice. The wine possesses fabulous fruit, an opulent, voluptuously textured mouthfeel, tremendous purity and a long finish. Drink this gorgeous 2008 over the next 3-4 years.
